Ride Bikes?

Yes, details here. We're riding in the Westlake area on the opening day of the http://www.seattlestreetcar.org/ Opening day is currently slated for Wednesday Dec 12th but it has changed a few times.

Why?

Because the city created an unsafe situation for cyclists by installing train tracks along Westlake in the right most (curb) lane, the place cyclists are recommended to ride according to RCW 46.61.770.

What would make Westlake safer?

Painted sharrows in the left (non-tracked) lane to remind drivers to share the road and "biker falling in tracks" signs. The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) refuses to ameliorate the situation by doing this.

I thought the government was trying to encourage & support cycling?

You'd think so by all the talk and posters but you'd be wrong.

Hi, I'm from the Mayor's office, what can I do to help?

I see WestlakePlanA has been effective. Go tell Mayor Gridlock to get sharrows painted in the left lane along westlake and "biker falling" signs installed before the Streetcar opens. Otherwise we ride.
